Life Saving Award / Citizen Recognition
The Chambersburg Police Department would like to recognize Keren Toledo for her selfless actions on 3/3/2021 that resulted in a life being saved.
On 3/3/2021, at approx.. 1822 hrs, CPD Officers responded to the area of Henninger Field for a Check the Welfare call. Upon arriving, a male was found inside his car. He was quickly identified by officers as having a diabetic life threatening emergency. An ambulance was called to the scene and his blood sugar was found to be critically low (28). EMS staff were able to assist the patient and aid in his recovery.
CPL Jakubic made contact with Keren Toledo who was the caller in this incident. Toledo told CPL Jakubic that she first observed the vehicle as she was driving by. Her first thought was, it’s just someone sleeping in the car. However, Toledo took note of the vehicle when she passed by. When she returned awhile later, she observed the vehicle still parked in the alley and the male was still inside. She felt this was out of place. She alerted a friend and they walked to the vehicle and checked on the male inside. After speaking with the male, he seemed disoriented. She grew further concerned and contacted police.
Toledo’s actions contributed to EMS & police being called to the scene. CPD Officers identified the male patient as being on the edge of unconsciousness and he was certainly in no condition to summon aid for himself. Because of her actions, she contributed in saving this man’s life due to the severe diabetic state that he was in. Had Toledo not taken it upon herself to look into something she thought was odd, the outcome could have had tragic consequences.
The Chambersburg Police Dept. would like to recognize you for your immediate action and in taking the necessary steps to summon aid. Your actions exemplify what being a good neighbor & outstanding citizen is about. Your friends, family and the citizens of Chambersburg should all be proud! Award Presented on 5/17/2021.
