The Waynesboro Police Department took a report where an individual had clicked on a video on Facebook that caused his computer to freeze up. After, a Windows Security screen popped up and prompted the individual to call a phone number. When doing so he was told that someone hacked his computer and had already tried getting money through Zelle, but the bank had intervened. The individual then received a call from someone claiming to be with the Window Security team. They then stated that in order for them to track down the hacker he must purchase Apple Gift cards and give them (Windows Security) the numbers. If a situation like was to happen to you or someone you know, this please do not call any numbers or respond to any emails. Please do not purchase gift cards, send money or provide personal information to anyone unless you are certain of their credibility. Please contact us at 717-762-2131 or your local police department to make a report if you are in a situation like this.
