Waynesboro Police Department and Waynesboro Fire Department currently on the scene of a potential hazardous materials event in the 300 block of Ringgold Street. A resident reports becoming ill after having opened a letter received at the residence. Hazardous Material Response Crew has been summoned to the scene. Incident remains active and under investigation. We are requesting that you avoid the area at this time. Update: The incident scene has been cleared. Hazardous Material Technician could identify no hazardous substances at the scene. The suspect envelope has been seized as evidence and will be sent to the lab for analysis as necessary. The person who received the letter and reported the event was evaluated at the scene and declined further medical treatment. Investigation will be continuing.
