At approximately 8:44 a.m. on April 17 a Waynesboro Police Officer observed a stolen vehicle in the 300 Block of East Main Street. When the officer attempted to initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle, the vehicle operator fled West bound on East Main Street, turned on to North Broad Street and then into an alley. The operator of the vehicle then intentionally rammed a Waynesboro Police Cruiser in an effort to escape apprehension. The operator then fled from the vehicle and was apprehended by officers. Rex Stoops, 48, Waynesboro, identified as the operator of the stolen vehicle. Stoops was taken into custody and is currently being held pending arraignment.
