PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING PEOPLE CLAIMING TO BE BOROUGH OFFICIALS
August 24, 2018
The Chambersburg Police Department recently received a report of a residential burglary where the suspect presented himself to the resident as a representative of the Chambersburg water department. This subject told the elderly victim that he was sent to check her water for contamination. The victim then allowed the resident into her home and through his ruse he was able to steal property from the unsuspecting resident. These types of scams often target vulnerable populations who are at risk and susceptible to such schemes. The public should be cautioned about any persons coming to their residence for any unannounced inspection without advanced warning or proper identification which displays their authority.
The authority or credentials of any Borough of Chambersburg employee or any representative of the Borough of Chambersburg can be verified by calling the Chambersburg Borough Service Center at 717-263-4111 or the Chambersburg Police Department at 717-264-4131. The Service Center and Police Department are in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
